We are thrilled to be part of Sheffield Music Trails again this year. A great initiative that links up many of Sheffield's Grassroots Music Venues in a day-long crawl across multiple venues.
Its all completely FREE and at each venue, you'll have an act to see that represents what the venue is all about. For us we've picked the incredible Egyptian experimental beat scientist ZULI!
8pm-11pm

Ahmed El Ghazoly aka ZULI (in all capitals), is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound artist. Internationally, ZULI is known for his releases on Lee Gamble’s UIQ – which included a string of EPs as
well as his debut LP Terminal, which highlighted the depth in his productions, mixing beat-making with vocals. The Italian Haunter Records saw the release of the infamous Trigger Finger EP which was then remixed by the likes of TSVI, AYA, Acre, and more. In 2019, ZULI launched a video series ‘irsh’ together with Rama where they curated and invited artists to play video recorded sets in a social setting. Only having the chance to record two episodes before the pandemic hit, they launched a label and released the first irsh compilation in September 2020 which highlighted talent from Cairo and the Middle East giving artists an international platform to be heard.

Locally in Cairo, ZULI is best known locally for his work in the Hip-hop scene, particularly with rapper Abyusif (who appeared on ZULI’s 2018 album ‘Terminal') but also in the Electronic music scene as part of the collective Kairo Ist Koming (KIK). Where he founded Cairo’s alternative music venue and club, VENT, together with Asem Tag aka ($$$TAG), which existed between 2013-2015 before transforming their project into a namesake club night and festival. Around the same time, VENT London was established at the now-closed Dance Tunnel venue by a third partner, Mohamed Elshourbagui.
ZULI’s music garners support all over the board ranging from the likes of Aphex Twin and Autechre to Ben UFO and Bradley Zero, even Richie Hawtin...

He has held a radio residency on NTS since 2016 where he is continuously supporting both established as well as up-and-coming acts through guest appearances on his show.
Most recently ZULI released a follow-up EP to his acclaimed Terminal LP and has many exciting projects
in the works including a new live a/v performance with Omar El Sadek.
